This just in: I’m reading at McNally Jackson in New York January 9!

Yep, that’s next Wednesday, Janyary 9! If you find yourself downtown on lovely Prince Street, come to McNally Jackson, one of the world’s best bookstores, to hear me read some funny-ass bits from Shader: A Coming of Age Memoir as part of Real Characters, a comedy and storytelling reading series. I’m reading with some other people much more funny and noteworthy, which ensures your time will not be wasted.

Plus it’s free. Plus it’s in Soho. Details below. And here’s the Facebook event page.

Comedian Andy Ross’s monthly showcase invites writers, actors and stand-ups to read funny essays or perform their latest laughable stage creations. Past performers include writers, journalists, actors, and stand-ups who have appeared on the Moth Mainstage, This American Life, BBC’s The World, HBO’s Funny or Die and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Joining us in January:

Ophira Eisenberg (The Moth, host of NPR’s Ask Me Another)

Daniel Nester (author of How To Be Inappropriate)

Abbi Crutchfield (MTV, VH1, Witstream)

Jeff Simmermon (This American Life, And I Am Not Lying)

REAL CHARACTERS is a monthly storytelling/reading series that combines some of New York’s best storytellers, humor writers, stand-ups, memoirists, and character performers. Some of it’s true; some of it feels more than true; and, most of it is mostly funny.

Past performers have appeared on The Moth Mainstage, This American Life30 Rock, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Past writers have contributed to The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, The OnionThe Simpsons, and The Colbert Report. Created in 2010, REAL CHARACTERS began in the basement of a comedy club and moved to the back of a French restaurant. It now has a permanent home at McNally Jackson Books in SoHo where it can be seen every second Wednesday of the month at 7pm.

Hosted and curated by Andy Ross. Produced by Ann Marie Lonsdale.
