“Looks That Kill” in The Hopkins Review.

“Looks That Kill” is the name of a 1984 Mötley Crüe song that was played on MTV twelve times every hour.

It’s an awesome song. Most Mötley Crüe songs are awesome.

It is also the namesake of a new poem just published in The Hopkins Review. I am the author of that poem.

The poem draws from two inspirations. One is this video of Vince Neil going to get Lasik surgery in Las Vegas. You should watch it right now.

The second is not a small amount of allusions to Julian Jaynes’ The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind. This is a book I have read and pretended to understand for years.

Read the poem here.

Big-time thanks to David Yezzi and The Hopkins Review folks for taking this!
