‘They lit sparklers and drank champagne. They hugged one another and danced in the streets.’

Berlin, New Year’s Eve, 1999. The Berlin Wall is coming down about two blocks away from where this photo was taken. The photographer–or the caption writer–for Stars and Stripes must have thought we were Germans. Actually it was a student from Rutgers-Camden visiting his friend Keara.

I have tried for years to retrieve this photo–I probably threw out my copy in one of my “this period of my life is over” purges. Stars and Stripes didn’t have it. Wondering if Adonis “Don” Tate, who took the picture, has a copy. Searching online now.
