Trombone master Albert Mangelsdorff clips.

Everywhere I look as I research my first instrument, trombone, there are references to Albert Manglesdorff.  I have thought about re-taking up trombone and wanted to brush up on jazz trombone players. This Mangelsdorff is terrific. Here are some clips.

With full band, c. 1964.

“Why play high and fast when you can make beautiful music!” one commenter writes. Agreed.

Solo, in some German documentary.

With Jaco Pastorius.

  1. He´s amazing, multifonics master and open minded improviser! Love his playing

  2. Thanks for your comment. He really is incredible. I am just discovering him. I knew a bit about George Lewis from his trio stuff with Zorn and Frisell, Peter Rutherford. Really getting into solo trombone music. I am going to post your Bach Cello clip up here soon! Love it!
