Last week’s New York Times Book Review, in case you missed it, had a Soft Skull title reviewed in its pages. No big deal, you might say; many Soft Skull titles, including one by yours truly, were reviewed there in the past five or so years. The difference this time? This one was on the front page: read Toni Bentley’s review of Hos, Hookers, Call Girls and Rent Boys here.
The Frequency North schedule for the 2009-2010 season is just about finished, and details are being firmed up. Stay tuned here to this space for that.
Tomorrow kicks off the 2009-2010 academic year for yours truly. Classes begin next Monday, but the Thursday in Trpybefore each year there is a President’s Day extravaganza, where we all get together and talk about some aspect of the future of the college, like we did last January.
This Friday, if we get a sitter, I want to go to the 8-Bit Breakdown in Troy. Troy is pretty hip, what with EMPAC and RPI and the Troy Farmer’s Market there. I hope we can go.
A reading from the Gospel of Bob Lefsetz: “Whenever Mike hires a session musician, he’s over thirty five. If he ever meets a younger player, he pleads with him to continue, but is it possible, with work drying up?”
I hate to say it, but the following TV shows have jumped the shark: Weeds (it probably happened last year, although the saving-the-stepsister and the Alanis plot keeps me interested); True Blood (enough with the black eyes and witchcraft, we came here for hot vampires); Entourage (although this show never had a shark to jump over, it’s pretty much Jeremy Piven’s show with a high school play around it).
And by the way: Since when did TV Guide purchase the domain Jump the Shark?
